Tips & Tricks for a smooth start with Witcher 3's RedKit

Level editing

  • Open the editor configuration with [CTRL+ALT+F]

    • In Editor options / Debug, enable:
      • Gizmo
      • Areas, to see the borders of your custom areas
      • Visual Debug, to see vegetation brushes and more information about the world
      • Sprites, to be able to use the Vertex Edit tool to add new edges to your areas and create complex shapes
  • Quickly open a recent world with the "File" menu on the top left menu.

  • Edit the editor keybinds by going in View / Customize editor shortcuts

    • Bind keys for the Rotate/Transform/Scale modes. Moving objects around is a central part of level editing, you don't want to move the cursor around and click a button everytime you want to switch from rotation to transform.

    • Bind key for the "paste aligned here". This option is also accessible in the context menu (right click) after copying an object, it allows to place objects in the world and have them aligned with the terrain for a more realistic "rotation".

    • Use the [C] key to place the selected object from the Asset Browser. No need to drag & drop every object in the preview window, select the mesh or the entity template in the asset browser, then press C and the object will be placed at your cursor's current position.

    • Use the [Y] key to move the selected object (in the world) at your cursor.

  • Remove vegetation with Shift+Click

  • Custom area shapes: The Vertex Edit tool, combined with the Sprites & VisualDebug options allow you to edit your custom areas and customize their shapes. You can also add new edges/corners with Shift+Click with your cursor on one of the area vertices

Assets Browser

  • Use the "Bookmark" tab to save commonly used directories. bookmark image
